Philosophy of the importance of Early Identification…

Shelley is a firm believer that if a parent has a concern regarding their child’s speech or language development, there is a good chance that they are correct. In these cases, a screening or assessment is the next step in identifying the existence of a communication problem as soon as possible. The earlier a speech or language disorder is identified, the sooner intervention and support can be put into place to help a child overcome or cope with their difficulties.

Leading to Family-based and Child-centered Early Intervention…

Intervention can take many forms including individual and group therapy sessions, consultation to teachers and other professionals, parent workshops, home programs for articulation and language concerns, and education. Shelley individually tailors each therapy session to each child to effectively address the speech and language goals; and to respect and meet the needs of the family. Intervention goals are determined after a thorough assessment is completed and parent concerns are taken into consideration. It is vital that parents are part of the therapeutic process and have a good understanding of the rationale for the treatment goals chosen for their child.
